Day 15 - To Hobart

We didnt get a great nights sleep.  2 trains woke us up, inconsiderately tooting their horns at 1:20 and 3:55.  I looked out and watched the later one.  It seemed to go on for ever.

We checked out of the hotel after breakfast and started to make our way south to Hobart.  The hotel had provided a very useful map of short walks in this area (which we used for previous walks) and there are 2 more on the way back.

First stop was Liffey Falls.  It was a 4km drive from the main road up to the Upper Car Park along a very rough and twisty road.  The walk was just over 1 km through Eucalyptus trees and ferns.  There were several viewing points over various stages of the falls.  The view at the bottom was really good.

We made our way back to the car park and went to see The Big Tree which was an enormous Eucalyptus standing 50m high with a trunk diameter of 3.4m

We drove back down to the main road.  Our second walk was Pine Lake which is a short boardwalk path down to the lake.  The walk took us through ancient Pencil Pines which are trees only found in the high ground of Tasmania.  The trees were growing in between lichen stained rocks.  It was sunny but cold here.

We made a few more short stops at viewpoints, including the Great Lake viewpoint and then onto our hotel in Hobart.

After settling into our hotel in Hobart, we took the bus into the City.  We walked around the harbour area and then around the town centre.  We didnt get good vibes about the place and a couple of hours was enough.  We had dinner in the Hobart Town Hotel and got the bus back to our hotel.  It is very cold and the temperature is well below average for this time of the year.  We read a news notification that said Melbourne had it coldest November day since 1913 last weekend!
