Day 14 - Around Deloraine

We first went to do a walk at Fern Glade which runs from the ticket office at Marakoopa Cave to the cave entrance. There is a road between the 2 but the walk is so much nicer.  As per the name, the walk through the woods was predominantly large ferns and alongside a stream.

We then had a coffee and cake at a community cafe in the pretty town of Mole Creek.

Afterwards we went to Honeycomb Cave within the Mole Creek Karst National Park.  There were several entrances to the cave and we went a short way into each entrance.

There was a sign to toilets but this was in what looked like a lookout shed up with steps leading to it.  Paul went to investigate and found that whatever was deposited into the toilet had a long drop into the chemical container below!

We came back to Deloraine and had a look at the local shops in the town.  They gave a lotnof sculptures by local artists around the town.  Each is on a gas cylinder.

While near the Train Park, we realised that a freight train was approaching.  It came very slowly then the traffic lights changed and traffic stopped.  The train went through continously sounding the horn which was deafening.

We had a short rest and then went to a few villages to the east of Deloraine.  Firstly we stopped at Hadspen where we walked along the River South Esk.  This town/village was well manicured.  All houses had beautiful gardens and ghe whole town was well maintained.  The houses above the river had big gardens and also paddocks nearer the river with horses, sheep or orchards.

We then went to Carrick, which has a large number of Georgian buildings including the former mill, St Andrews Church and many houses.  We walked along a few streets and down to the Liffey River.  This village is also well maintained and the houses have beautiful gardens.

Lastly we stopped in Westbury where there is supposed to be a sculpture trail.  Paul stayed in the car as his knee was hurting and I walked around the village green and to the Town Common.  I found 3 sculptures but not sure how many there in total.
