Day 26 - Kuala Lumpur

After breakfast we caught the Monorail to the Central Railway Station to see if my credit card had been found but it hasnt.  It was dry when we went out and we had quite a few sunny periods over the day and 1 heavy rain shower which lasted about 2 minutes but soaked the ground and pavements.  We made for the Central Market, which we had been to on our last visit, 13 years ago.  It is much the same as it was then.

Our remaining vists were new to us.  We went to nearby Chinatown but this was more of a market than an authentic Chinatown.  There was one stall selling an interesting looking fruit but most were selling fake watches, bags and clothes from China and hassling all the tourists.

We then went to see the Jamek Mosque.  This stands at the point where KLs 2 rivers converge, the Rivers Klang and Gombak. It was here we had the rain but a nearby building had a large ledge on the 3rd or 4th floor so we were able to stand under it and keep dry.  The rivers were extremely muddy looking and not pretty but it seems a big project to turn this area into a waterfront attraction has taken place, called "River of Life".  We saw 1 very large monitor lizard at the side of the river with a smaller one nearby.

The last visit this morning was to Merdeka Square.  This is where the Union Jack was taken down on 31st August 1957 and the Malaysian Flag was hoisted for this newly created country and has flown here ever since.   It was a very big, mainly grassed square with colonial buildings at the side and a flag.  We had an ice cream and made our way back to the hotel for a rest before eating and going out again after dark.

Early evening we went to the Petronas Towers which turned out to be the highlight of the day.  The Christmas lights were switched on today and the towers are now illuminated green and red.

Behind the buildings is a big shopping centre with all the very big names like Prada, Gucci, Hilfiger and loads more.  It also had an impressive Christmas display.

Lastly we went through the shopping centre to the lakes where there was a sound and light show using the fountains.  It was really good and there were many different view points.
